Great candidates for reshaping

- Slightly uneven or jagged edges that catch the eye
- Minor overlaps and irregular tooth shapes
- Sharp corners that irritate your lip or tongue
- Tiny surface flaws that whitening alone cannot smooth
Where reshaping is not enough
- Large chips or fractures, which usually call for bonding or a crown
- Noticeably crooked or rotated teeth, which is aligner territory
- Gaps between teeth, better closed with bonding or veneers
- Deep discoloration, which reshaping does not change
- Teeth already worn thin, where removing more enamel is the wrong move

How reshaping works
A close look first
We examine the teeth and, when needed, take X-rays to confirm there is enough healthy enamel to reshape safely. If reshaping is not the right tool, we tell you what is.
Gentle sculpting
Using fine polishing instruments, we smooth and shape the enamel a fraction of a millimeter at a time, checking your smile and bite as we go. Because so little enamel is involved, it is often quick and painless, usually with no numbing needed.
Polish and done
The reshaped edges are polished smooth and the result is immediate. Many patients are in and out in a single short visit.
One honest note: enamel does not grow back, so we reshape sparingly and only where your teeth have enamel to spare. Conservative is the whole point.

Reshaping is often the finishing touch in a simple, conservative smile refresh.
Dental bonding
Reshaping takes small amounts of enamel away; bonding adds tooth-colored material where it is missing. Together they can rebalance a smile: smooth one edge, build up its neighbor.
